Crafting Easy Candy-Covered Pretzels for Game Day

The foundation of any great candy-covered pretzel lies in selecting the right pretzels. For our Seattle Seahawks Pretzels, we opted for a mix of both regular-sized pretzel twists and mini pretzel twists. This variety adds visual interest and offers different bite sizes for your guests. However, feel free to use just one size if you prefer a more uniform look. The key is to choose sturdy pretzels that can hold up to the candy coating without breaking easily.

Using Rold Gold pretzels is often a good choice due to their consistent quality and shape, but any similar brand will work. The slight saltiness of the pretzels provides a wonderful contrast to the sweet candy melts, creating that addictive sweet and salty flavor profile that makes these treats so popular. Before you begin, ensure your pretzels are fresh and unbroken to ensure the best results.

To truly capture the spirit of the Seattle Seahawks, we’ll be utilizing their iconic team colors: vibrant blue, lush green, and crisp white. These colors will transform ordinary pretzels into festive, game-day masterpieces. For this recipe, we aimed to create a total of 54 pretzels – 18 of each color. To maintain our mixed-size approach, approximately one-third of these will be regular-sized pretzels, with the remaining two-thirds being mini pretzels. This ratio allows for a diverse and appealing platter.

Essential Ingredients & Equipment

Before you start melting and dipping, gather all your ingredients and equipment to ensure a smooth and enjoyable process. Organization is key when working with candy melts!

Ingredients:

  • Rold Gold Pretzels – Thins (or similar regular-sized pretzel twists)
  • Rold Gold Pretzels – Tiny Twists (or similar mini pretzels)
  • Wilton Candy Melts – Royal Blue (approximately 165 melts total)
  • Wilton Candy Melts – Bright Green (approximately 165 melts total)
  • Wilton Candy Melts – Bright White (approximately 165 melts total)
  • Parchment paper or wax paper

Equipment:

  • Microwave-safe bowls (at least three, one for each color)
  • Forks or dipping tools
  • Baking sheets or large flat surfaces for drying
  • Small Ziploc bags or piping bags
  • Scissors

Step-by-Step Guide to Perfect Candy-Coated Pretzels

Making candy-covered pretzels is simpler than it looks, and the vibrant results are always worth the minimal effort. The process for each color is identical, so once you master one, you’ll be a pro at all three!

Preparing the Blue Seattle Seahawks Pretzels

  1. Melt the Blue Candy Melts: Begin by placing 50 Wilton Royal Blue Candy Melts into a microwave-safe bowl. It’s crucial not to overheat the candy melts, as this can cause them to seize or become grainy. Microwave for 40 seconds, then stir thoroughly. Continue microwaving in 10-second intervals, stirring after each, until the candy melts are completely smooth and fluid. The consistency should be perfect for dipping.
  2. Dip the Pretzels: Line a baking sheet or flat surface with parchment paper or wax paper. This prevents the pretzels from sticking as they dry. Take one pretzel at a time and immerse it into the melted blue candy mixture. Use a fork or a specialized dipping tool to gently coat the top area of the pretzel, ensuring even coverage. Lift the pretzel out, allowing any excess candy to drip back into the bowl.
  3. Set to Dry: Carefully place the candy-covered pretzel onto the prepared parchment paper. Repeat this process until all 18 blue pretzels are coated. Allow them to dry completely at room temperature. This usually takes about 15-20 minutes, or you can speed up the process by placing them in the refrigerator for 5-10 minutes.
  4. Add the Blue Drizzle: For an extra decorative touch, melt 15 additional Wilton Royal Blue Candy Melts in a small Ziploc bag. Once melted and smooth, snip off just the very tip of one corner of the bag. The smaller the snip, the finer and more controlled your drizzle will be. Drizzle the melted blue candy artistically over the dried blue pretzels. This adds texture and visual appeal.
  5. Final Touches: Let the drizzle harden completely. Once set, you can gently clean up any stray drips or excess candy on the edges of the pretzels using your fingers for a cleaner finish.

Creating the Green and White Pretzels

Now that you’re an expert in blue, repeat the exact same process for the remaining two team colors!

  1. Green Pretzels: Use 50 Wilton Bright Green Candy Melts for coating 18 pretzels, following steps 1-3 above. Then, melt 15 additional Bright Green Candy Melts in a separate Ziploc bag for the decorative drizzle, following steps 4-5.
  2. White Pretzels: Similarly, use 50 Wilton Bright White Candy Melts to coat the final 18 pretzels. For the drizzle, melt 15 additional Bright White Candy Melts in a clean Ziploc bag and apply as described in steps 4-5.

Tips for Perfectly Coated Game Day Pretzels

While this recipe is incredibly easy, a few expert tips can elevate your Seattle Seahawks Pretzels from great to absolutely perfect:

  • Mind the Temperature: Overheated candy melts can become thick and clumpy. If this happens, try adding a tiny bit of vegetable shortening (like Crisco) or paramount crystals, a specialized ingredient for thinning candy melts, and stir well. Add sparingly, a quarter teaspoon at a time.
  • Work in Batches: If you’re making a very large quantity, it’s best to melt smaller amounts of candy melts at a time. This keeps the melts at an optimal dipping consistency for longer.
  • Ensure Dryness: Make sure your pretzels are completely dry before you start dipping. Any moisture can cause the candy to seize or not adhere properly.
  • Clean Drizzle: For the neatest drizzle, ensure the base color is completely set before adding the contrasting color. If your drizzle is too thick or uneven, you can use a toothpick to gently guide it or clean up edges before it fully hardens.
  • Parchment Paper is Your Friend: Don’t skip the parchment or wax paper! It makes cleanup a breeze and ensures your pretzels don’t stick to your drying surface.
  • Get the Kids Involved: This is a fantastic, kid-friendly activity! Children love dipping and drizzling (with supervision, especially with hot candy melts). It’s a fun way to get them excited about game day and cooking.

Serving and Storing Your Seahawks Treats

Once your Seattle Seahawks Pretzels are completely dry and hardened, they are ready to be displayed and devoured! Arrange them attractively on a platter with other game day snacks, or package them in clear bags with a ribbon for a thoughtful gift for the ultimate Seahawks fan in your life. They pair perfectly with other sweet treats like cookies or cupcakes, and balance well with savory options like chips and dips.

These candy-coated pretzels are not just a snack; they are a festive decoration themselves! Imagine a vibrant display of blue, green, and white treats adding a pop of color to your Super Bowl party spread. They are incredibly versatile and always a crowd-pleaser, whether you’re celebrating a big win or simply enjoying the camaraderie of football season.

For storage, place the cooled and hardened pretzels in an airtight container at room temperature. They will remain fresh and crunchy for up to a week. Avoid direct sunlight or extreme heat, which can cause the candy melts to soften or melt. If you live in a particularly humid climate, you might store them in the refrigerator, but allow them to come to room temperature for about 10-15 minutes before serving for the best texture.

Seattle Seahawks Pretzels

Seattle Seahawks Pretzels are sweet, crunchy, and delicious. What an easy and fun treat for Football Game Day or a Super Bowl Party!

Yield: 54 pretzels
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 20 minutes
Total Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients

  • Rold Gold Pretzels – Thins (regular size)
  • Rold Gold Pretzels – Tiny Twists (mini size)
  • Wilton Candy Melts – Royal Blue
  • Wilton Candy Melts – Bright White
  • Wilton Candy Melts – Bright Green
  • Parchment Paper or Wax Paper

Instructions

The Seattle Seahawks team colors are Blue, Green, and White, so you will need to make three batches of pretzels – one for each of the three team colors. We made 18 pretzels of each color, using approximately 1/3 regular-sized pretzels and 2/3 mini pretzels.

  1. Place 50 Candy Melts of one color (e.g., Royal Blue) in a microwave-safe bowl on a piece of parchment paper. Melt them in the microwave, starting with 40 seconds, stirring, then continuing in 10-second increments until fully melted and smooth.
  2. Dip a pretzel into the melted candy mixture, using a fork to ensure the top area of the pretzel is fully covered.
  3. Once the pretzel is completely covered, place the candy-covered pretzel on a piece of wax or parchment paper to dry completely.
  4. For the drizzle, melt 15 additional Candy Melts of the same color in a Ziploc bag.
  5. Once melted, snip off a tiny tip of the bag’s corner and drizzle the melted candy over the dried pretzels.
  6. Allow the drizzle to harden completely. You can then clean up any excess drizzle on the outside and inside of the pretzels with your fingers if desired.
  7. Repeat this entire process for the Bright Green and Bright White candy melts and pretzels.
