There, you’ll find all the guidance you need to prepare the ideal canvas for your Minion masterpieces. Remember, fresh ingredients are paramount: use fresh marshmallows for optimal melt and chewiness, and quality butter for richness.

Bringing the Minions to Life: Coloring the Rice Krispie Treat Mixture

Now for the fun part – transforming our delicious base into the iconic yellow and blue hues of the Minions! The key to vibrant, evenly colored treats is to incorporate the food coloring into the melted marshmallow mixture before adding the Rice Krispie cereal. This ensures a smooth, consistent color throughout without needing to overmix the cereal, which can crush the delicate crisps.

Creating the Minion Blue (Overalls)

For the vibrant blue color that forms the Minions’ adorable overalls, we’ll work with the first batch of Rice Krispie Treat mixture. This batch specifically uses 3 tablespoons of butter, 3 cups of mini marshmallows, and 3 cups of Rice Krispie Cereal. After your butter is melted and marshmallows are fully incorporated and smooth, it’s time to add the color. To achieve that signature Minion blue, we recommend combining 6 drops of blue food coloring with 1 drop of red food coloring. The hint of red helps to create a deeper, richer blue, preventing it from looking too stark or greenish. Stir well until the color is evenly distributed, then quickly fold in your Rice Krispie Cereal until just combined. Overmixing can lead to hard treats!

Achieving the Iconic Minion Yellow

The second batch will be dedicated to the cheerful yellow bodies of our Minions. For this, you’ll use slightly larger quantities: 4 1/2 tablespoons of butter, 4 1/2 cups of mini marshmallows, and 4 1/2 cups of Rice Krispie Cereal. Once the butter and marshmallows are melted into a smooth, gooey consistency, add 6 drops of yellow Wilton Color Right food coloring. Wilton’s Color Right system is excellent for achieving vivid, true-to-life colors without diluting the mixture. Mix thoroughly until you have a bright, uniform yellow, then fold in the cereal. These two batches will give you ample material to create a delightful group of Minions.

Minion Construction: Assembly Instructions

With your colored Rice Krispie Treat mixtures prepared, it’s time to bring your Minions to life! This stage is all about shaping and assembly, and working with the mixture while it’s still warm and pliable is crucial. Be prepared to work quickly but gently.

Step 1: Forming the Blue Overalls

Allow your blue Rice Krispie Treat mixture to cool slightly. It needs to be cool enough to handle comfortably without burning your fingers, but still warm and malleable for shaping. For the Minions’ distinctive blue “overalls” section, measure out approximately 1 ounce of the blue mixture. With lightly buttered fingers (this is your secret weapon against stickiness!), mold this portion into a small cylinder. The butter acts as a non-stick agent, making the shaping process much easier and cleaner. From the 3 cups of blue Rice Krispie Treat mixture, you should be able to create approximately 8 perfectly sized blue cylinders.

Step 2: Cooling the Blue Bases

Once you’ve shaped all your blue pieces, arrange them on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper or wax paper. Set them aside to cool completely. This cooling period is important as it helps the blue pieces hold their shape and provides a stable base for the yellow bodies. While the blue bases are cooling, you can prepare your yellow Rice Krispie Treat mixture if you haven’t already, ensuring it’s at the optimal temperature for molding.

Step 3: Attaching the Yellow Bodies

Similar to the blue mixture, allow your yellow Rice Krispie Treat mixture to cool slightly until it’s pliable but not too hot. Measure out approximately 2 ounces of the yellow mixture. Gently mold this yellow portion directly onto the top of a cooled blue cylinder. The warmth of the yellow mixture will slightly soften the surface of the blue, allowing them to adhere beautifully as they both cool down.

Step 4: Shaping Your Minions

Using your hands, carefully shape the combined yellow and blue portions into the recognizable Minion body. You can gently taper the yellow top to give it that classic Minion rounded head shape. As the Rice Krispie Treat mixture cools completely, the two distinct colored pieces will bond together, creating a single, adorable Minion body that holds its form perfectly. Following these measurements and techniques, you should be able to create 8 delightful Minions Rice Krispie Treats from the batch sizes indicated.

The Final Touches: Decorating Your Minions

Once your Minion bodies have cooled and set, it’s time for the most exciting part: bringing their personalities to life with their iconic eyes and mischievous smiles! This is where the magic truly happens, transforming simple treats into instantly recognizable characters.

Step 5: Goggles and Eyes

Gather your Wilton Candy Eyes and a tube of black icing. For the black icing, a good quality store-bought gel icing works perfectly for convenience, but if you’re feeling ambitious, a small batch of homemade Royal Icing tinted black can also be used for a slightly more defined look. Remember that Minions come in various forms – some have one large eye, while others have two. This is your chance to give each Minion its unique character! Use the black icing to pipe the frames for their signature goggles onto the yellow body. Next, carefully place the Wilton Candy Eyes directly onto the wet black icing. The icing will act as an adhesive, securing the eyes in place as it dries. For Minions with two eyes, use two medium candy eyes; for those with one eye, opt for a single large candy eye for that unmistakable look.

Step 6: Adding Smiles and Details

With the goggles in place, use the same black icing to pipe a variety of mouths onto your Minions. Some Minions might have a simple smile, others a mischievous grin, or even a surprised “O” shape. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different expressions to give each Minion its own personality. You can also use a fine tip to add a tiny black strap connecting the goggles around the back of the Minion’s head, enhancing the realistic effect. This step is incredibly easy and yields such adorable results, making your Minions instantly recognizable and ready for their close-up!

Tips for Minion Mastery & Success

  • Fresh Ingredients: Always use fresh marshmallows! Stale marshmallows won’t melt as smoothly, affecting the texture of your treats.
  • Grease, Grease, Grease: Non-stick spray or butter is your best friend. Lightly grease your pot, spatula, hands, and any containers used for pressing or molding. This prevents the sticky mixture from clinging.
  • Gentle Heat: Melt marshmallows over low to medium heat. High heat can burn the marshmallows and make the treats hard.
  • Don’t Overmix: Once the Rice Krispies are added, fold them in gently until just combined. Overmixing will crush the cereal and result in dense, rather than airy, treats.
  • Work Quickly: Rice Krispie treat mixture sets relatively fast. Have all your coloring and shaping tools ready before you start to work efficiently.
  • Color Intensity: For truly vibrant colors, especially yellow and blue, consider using gel food colorings instead of liquid drops. They offer more concentrated pigment without adding excess moisture.
  • Storage: Store your finished Minions Rice Krispie Treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days to maintain their freshness and chewiness.

These yummy and adorable Despicable Me Minions Rice Krispie Treats are made out of crunchy, marshmallow-y Rice Krispie Cereal. They are cute, fun, and easy to make, perfect for any Minions enthusiast!

Ingredients

  • 7 1/2 cups Kellogg’s Rice Krispies Cereal (divided)
  • 7 1/2 teaspoons Butter (Salted, Sweet Cream Butter recommended, divided)
  • 7 1/2 cups Mini Marshmallows (divided)
  • Black Icing (store-bought or homemade Royal Icing)
  • Wilton Color Right Food Coloring System – Yellow
  • Wilton Color Right Food Coloring System – Blue
  • Wilton Color Right Food Coloring System – Red
  • 4 Wilton Candy Eyes – Large
  • 8 Wilton Candy Eyes – Medium

Instructions

  1. Prepare Blue Mixture: For the blue “overalls” batch, melt 3 tablespoons of butter in a large pot over low heat. Add 3 cups of mini marshmallows and stir until completely melted and smooth. Remove from heat. Add 6 drops of blue food coloring and 1 drop of red food coloring; stir thoroughly until the color is vibrant and uniform. Quickly fold in 3 cups of Rice Krispie Cereal until just coated.
  2. Prepare Yellow Mixture: For the yellow Minion body batch, melt 4 1/2 tablespoons of butter in a separate large pot over low heat. Add 4 1/2 cups of mini marshmallows and stir until completely melted and smooth. Remove from heat. Add 6 drops of yellow Wilton Color Right food coloring; stir thoroughly until the color is bright and uniform. Quickly fold in 4 1/2 cups of Rice Krispie Cereal until just coated.
  3. Form Blue Overalls: Allow the blue Rice Krispie Treat mixture to cool slightly until it’s warm enough to manipulate but not too hot to touch. With buttered fingers, measure about 1 oz. of the blue mixture and mold it into a small cylinder shape. You should be able to make 8 blue cylinders.
  4. Cool Blue Pieces: Place the formed blue cylinders on a cookie sheet lined with parchment or wax paper to cool and set while you continue with the yellow mixture.
  5. Attach Yellow Body: Once the yellow mixture has cooled to a workable temperature, measure about 2 oz. of the yellow mixture. Mold this yellow portion directly onto the top of each cooled blue cylinder, forming the upper body and head of the Minion.
  6. Shape Minions: Using your hands, gently shape the combined yellow and blue pieces into the recognizable Minion form. As the Rice Krispie Treat mixture cools completely, the two pieces will adhere together, forming a solid Minion body. This process should yield 8 Minions.
  7. Prepare for Decorating: Once all Minions have cooled and are firm, prepare your Wilton Candy Eyes and black icing. Ensure the icing is at a good consistency for piping.
  8. Decorate: Use the black icing to pipe the frames for the Minion’s goggles. For single-eyed Minions, use one large candy eye; for two-eyed Minions, use two medium candy eyes. Press the candy eyes gently into the wet black icing to secure them. Finally, use the black icing to pipe a variety of mouths, giving each Minion a unique expression.
